Human Resources (HR) Specialist

The HR Specialist performs activities in the human resources area which includes recruitment, compensation, benefits, leave administration, health and safety, employee relations, and training and development. The HR Specialist implements the Frontier Science HR policies and procedures and is responsible for record keeping and maintenance of documentation for human resources related activities.

Location: Amherst, New York

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinates recruitment efforts, posts open positions, screens applicants, participates in the interview process, updates the applicant tracking system as needed
  • Informs applicants of job description, compensation, and benefits
  • Supports onboarding, hires employees, processes new employee paperwork, and conducts new employee orientation
  • Coordinates offboarding
  • Prepares and maintains employment records
  • Manages employee relations, maintains records related to performance management and disciplinary actions
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Contributes to the creation and maintenance of HR policies and procedures
  • Recommends and interprets policies, procedures, and best practices.

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Controls over position:

The HR Specialist will be assigned projects by the COO, as well as other organization leadership members and executives, for HR related matters.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • At least four years of direct Human Resources experience
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Strong interpersonal and active listening skills, ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience creating and documenting HR policies and procedures
  • Strong reading comprehension, ability to compile, interpret, and analyze information.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Professional certification in Human Resources
  • Proficient with ADP Workforce Now.

Travel: This position will be based in the Amherst, New York office. This role may on occasion be asked to travel to the organization’s other office locations in Boston, Massachusetts and Madison, Wisconsin.
